Scarefest is a brand new Halloween themed festival taking place in County Carlow each Halloween.
The festival features a wide ranging programme, from paranormal investigations and witch trials, to spectacular fire shows and family fun activities!
Friday 25th
Lucinda Sly Walking Tour Carlow County Museum 4pm FREE
This interactive walking tour tells the tragic tale of Lucinda Sly, who was hanged for murdering her husband in 1835, along with her alleged accomplice John Dempsey. Commencing from beneath the trap door from which she was hanged in Carlow County Museum, the tour will include visits to the old Carlow Gaol, The Governors House, Deighton Hall and Shamrock Square and will be led by local historian John McDarby.

Paranormal Investigation Duckett's Grove 8pm €30
Take part in a real Paranormal Investigation in one of Ireland's most haunted buildings. During the day, Duckett's Grove is full of life and is a very popular tourist destination with its' two beautifully restored walled gardens, forest walks, tea rooms and craft shops. However, by night, it's completely different and many can even sense the energy building as the sun goes down. Some paranormal activity encountered at the site has also been less than friendly over the years and as a result, you have to be over the age of 18 to complete an investigation and be willing to sign a waiver upon arrival.

Take the kids to a Halloween party like no other! With children’s entertainers, guided tours of the fairy forest, face painting, bouncy castles*, pumpkin picking, music and more, this is the family event of the festival! Each child will get to choose their own pumpkin which they can take home, or carve in our pumpkin carving workshop. There will also be a craft market and food vendors on-site throughout the event.

Thursday 31st
Public Witch Trial Carlow Courthouse 7pm €15 adults/€10 kids (under 16)
Taking place inside the 18th century Carlow Courthouse, a local woman will go on trial accused of witchcraft. Will she be found guilty or innocent? Only time will tell! Written & directed by Derek Egan, this will be one of the highlights of this year’s festival. Advanced booking is recommended as this event sold out in 4 days last year. The ticket also includes entry into Perry's warehouse for the Festival Finale show which will include the second and final act of the witch trial.

Night Time Street Parade Carlow Town 8pm FREE
Following the Witch Trial, the witch (if found guilty) will be paraded through the streets of Carlow Town so locals can show their distain. She will be followed by local groups and entertainers in what will be a fun filled parade with lights, music, dance and scares! The theme of the parade is Day of the Dead. People are encouraged to dress up and join in the parade when it passes by.
Festival Finale Perry’s Warehouse 8.30pm €5
The Festival Finale will feature the second and final part of the Witch Trial followed by a variety show of local performance groups. The show will culminate in an amazing show of percussion and dance from The Hit Machine. The Hit Machine Drummers bring noise and the energy everywhere they go. Invigorating crowds since 2013, the Hit Machine have been taking events to the next level all over Ireland and abroad with their spell-binding drum show. Food vendors will be on site, and toilet facilities will also be provided. There will be some small carnival rides/attractions on site also which will incur a small charge (not included in the entrance fee)

Paranormal Night with Barry Fitzgerald (Ghost Hunters International) Duckett’s Grove 8pm €50
Spend Halloween night taking part in a real paranormal investigation with Barry Fitzgerald from Ghost Hunters International fame. Barry will brief all in attendance on the paranormal and speak about some of his own experiences before leading a real investigation in the grounds of Duckett's Grove.
