West Clare Railway has been restored to provide a fun day out for families and school tours.

• The highlight - One of the original West Clare Railway steam engines “The Sliabh Callan” brought back to its former glory is back on track burning coal and carrying visitors from near & far down memory lane (track!)

The Fisherman’s Cottage

Apart from providing an interesting method of public entry to the shed, this cottage is being rebuilt on the original foundations in the local style to display many of the artefacts of the local fishermen in the bay and estuary of the past together with relics showing the way of life of local people before the “Celtic Tiger”.

Together with examples of boats moored in the nearby bay showing the fishing way of life as well as the turf traffic of both railway and river of the past, the station house displaying the station master’s home, the station rooms, platforms, water tower, water crane and signalman’s cabin, the cottage provides a centre in which the culture of the people of west Clare can be displayed, examined and explained.
